Information for Academic and Student Visitors
The Australian Health Policy Institute (AHPI) invites academics and students from both Australia and overseas to apply to undertake research as a visitor to AHPI. Potential visitors should have a strong interest in health policy and a research project that would complement the research strengths of AHPI staff (please review the research interests of AHPI staff at http://www.ahpi.health.usyd.edu.au/about/list.php). When the proposed project lies outside the current research scope of AHPI, we may be able to facilitate contact between visitors and key researchers in the identified area.
We ask that in return for being hosted by AHPI, all visitors either present a seminar during their stay or work toward the production of a report, journal paper or other document with researchers from AHPI.
PLEASE NOTE:
We have reached our full quota of student and academic visitors for 2008 and Semester 1 of 2009. Students and academics who wish to visit AHPI from July 2009 should forward their application to the AHPI Visitor Supervisor (see below) by 28 February 2009. Applications will be judged on the feasibility of the proposed research and the capacity of AHPI to provide the environment for the research to take place.
Application Process
Student Visitors
When applying to become a visitor at AHPI, applicants will need to provide a written application which includes the following:
- A copy of your CV;
- A detailed and referenced research plan of the project you wish to undertake during the visit;
- An indication of the individuals or research centres that you wish to connect with while visiting AHPI;
- An outline of what your output will be (for example students may wish to present a seminar while at AHPI, develop a policy briefing paper or write a newspaper opinion piece);
- A description of the facilities you require during your stay and how you will be funded during your visit;
- A written academic reference;
- The preferred length and timing of your visit.
Applications for commencement after July 2009 should be directed to the AHPI visitor supervisor, by 28 February 2009.
Academic Visitors
Academic visitors should discuss their plans personally with the AHPI visitor supervisor, Dr Masoud Mirzaei , or make an approach to AHPI through another University of Sydney staff member. As appropriate, academic visitors are requested to either present a seminar during their stay or work toward the production of a report, journal paper or other document with researchers from AHPI. Applications will be judged on the capacity of AHPI to provide the environment for the proposed research to take place.
Benefits of Being an AHPI visitor
We use our extensive contacts within academia and the Australian health system so that visitors can fully explore their research project. We provide the opportunity to present your work at the University of Sydney and if appropriate will collaborate on the development of further research projects.
Length of Stay
Visitors normally stay between one and three months. An identification of the preferred timing and length of the visit should be included in your application.
Facilities Available
We are based on the Camperdown campus of the University of Sydney and are able to arrange desk, computer and internet access. Visiting academics may also be appointed as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Sydney. Access to the University of Sydney library is available for University of Sydney title holders and students and staff of other ULA participating universities.
Financial and Accommodation Support
We are unable to offer financial support so visitors need to be self funded or supported by their home institution. Accommodation advice may be found through the University of Sydney accommodation service at http://www.usyd.edu.au/accom.
